Vasnetsov's Painting Estimated at $1.5 Million to Be Auctioned

A painting by the renowned Russian artist Viktor Vasnetsov, titled "Christ in the Purple Robe," is set to be auctioned. The artwork, attributed to Vasnetsov by experts from the Russian Museum, was initially sold at a Sotheby's auction in 2003 for $50,000. Its current estimated value is $1.5 million. Prior to the auction, the painting will be available for public viewing at the Russian Museum until the end of March 2025, after which it will be transferred to its new owner. Also featured at the upcoming auction is Ivan Aivazovsky's "Landscape with Volcanoes" from 1867, estimated at 100 million rubles. This piece, distinguished by its unique subject matter, is a rare exhibit at open auctions. The auction is scheduled for March 16, after which "God Seeker" will be transferred to the buyer.
