Former Kenyan Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua urges international sanctions against President William Ruto for allegedly enabling the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan to launder gold money through Nairobi. Gachagua, who served as vice president from September 2022 to October 2023, claims Ruto's actions facilitate the RSF's ability to purchase arms. In February, Kenya hosted a conference where the RSF launched a parallel government, prompting Sudan to suspend imports from Kenya in protest. The Sudanese foreign ministry has accused Ruto of prioritizing personal and commercial interests with the RSF and its regional sponsors. The US Treasury previously sanctioned AZ Gold, a UAE-based company, for purchasing gold from Sudan, allegedly benefiting the RSF. Sudan has also accused the UAE of complicity in genocide before the International Court of Justice.
