US and Russia Initiate Talks Aimed at Ukraine Peace, Embassies Restoration, and Economic Cooperation

The US and Russia agreed on Tuesday to start working towards ending the war in Ukraine and improving diplomatic and economic ties. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated the two sides agreed to pursue restoring staffing at embassies in Washington and Moscow, creating a high-level team to support Ukraine peace talks, and exploring closer relations and economic cooperation. The talks included Sergey Lavrov and other senior officials. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his country would not accept any outcome from the talks since Kyiv did not take part. European allies have also expressed concerns about being sidelined. No date has been set yet for a summit between Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin.
