Xi and Putin Unite Against US Policies
On May 8, 2025, Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin met in the Kremlin during the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany. They issued a strategic declaration criticizing the U.S.'s containment policy and NATO expansion.
The declaration raised concerns about the U.S.'s missile defense system and the risks of nuclear conflict. They also criticized NATO expansion in the Asia-Pacific region and the creation of military infrastructure in Australia (AUKUS), which they believe provokes an arms race.
Russia and China signed an agreement to promote and protect investments, estimated at $200 billion. Putin welcomed Chinese car and microchip manufacturers and pledged to meet China's gas needs. Both leaders advocated for a peaceful resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue, respecting all parties' concerns. They also praised China's role regarding the conflict in Ukraine.
