AI Enhances Railway Traffic Management in Russia

Edited by: Sergey Belyy1

Russia is implementing AI-driven traffic management systems on its railways. According to domestic experts, AI algorithms will enable high-precision train control and improve the reliability of management systems. A mathematical model incorporating multiple traffic management modes has been developed for the "Echelon" train control system, which has two high-speed channels for data exchange between subsystems. This model will form the basis for creating a digital twin of the train traffic control process, pending verification on a testbed locomotive. Digital systems are actively being introduced on Russian railways, with discussions on their effects and development at the "Digitalization in Transport" conference in Moscow on April 25.
