Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has initiated pilot trials of autonomous vehicles in collaboration with Pony.ai, a global leader in autonomous driving technology. These trials are set to begin later this year, paving the way for a fully driverless commercial service targeted for launch in 2026. This partnership aligns with Dubai's Smart Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which aims to convert 25% of all trips in the city to autonomous journeys by 2030.

Pony.ai's seventh-generation autonomous vehicles, co-developed with major automotive manufacturers, are equipped with advanced artificial intelligence algorithms and a suite of sensors, including lidars, radars, and cameras, to ensure precise navigation and safety across varying road and weather conditions.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating that it supports Dubai's vision to enhance sustainability, safety, and user convenience through innovation in transportation.

This initiative follows Dubai's ongoing efforts to integrate autonomous mobility solutions, reinforcing its position as a global leader in future mobility. The successful implementation of these trials is expected to contribute to the city's goal of achieving 25% autonomous transport by 2030.
