Urban Greening in Bückeburg, Germany West African Fish Stock Crisis

Edited by: Dmitry Drozd

Bückeburg, Germany, is planning urban greening projects to fight climate change effects like long summer heat and heavy rains. The city aims to add more plants in the city center and open up paved areas so rainwater can soak into the ground. In West Africa, sardinella fish populations are decreasing rapidly because of too much fishing by the fishmeal industry. This industry turns small, edible fish into feed for farmed seafood, which hurts local communities that need these fish for food and their jobs. Sardinella catches in Senegal have dropped significantly in recent years. Climate change is also making the waters warmer, causing fish to move north.
