Biden Reaffirms Support for Ukraine Amid Ongoing Conflict with Russia

In a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on September 27, 2024, U.S. President Joe Biden emphasized his unwavering support for Ukraine, stating, "Russia will not win. Ukraine will win, and we will continue to support them every step of the way." The meeting took place in the Oval Office, where Biden announced an increase in security assistance to Ukraine, which may include long-range missiles manufactured in the U.S.

Vice President Kamala Harris, in a separate meeting with Zelensky, criticized those who would force Ukraine to concede territory, referring to proposals that echo Russian President Vladimir Putin’s demands. She asserted that such proposals are not peace offerings but rather calls for surrender.

Zelensky presented his "plan for victory," arguing that the war can be won and a just peace achieved only with U.S. support. Biden proposed a high-level summit in Germany with 50 allied countries to coordinate efforts.

The U.S. has committed a total of $8 billion in aid to Ukraine since the Russian invasion began in February 2022. As the conflict continues, Zelensky remains concerned about the upcoming U.S. elections and the potential impact of a Trump presidency on support for Ukraine.
