A vulnerability in older ZyXEL ADSL routers has been identified, leaving them susceptible to security breaches. These routers, often provided by internet service providers, can be accessed by unauthorized individuals, enabling them to steal data from home or business networks.
While ZyXEL has stated they won't be addressing the vulnerability, experts recommend upgrading to more secure routers, preferably those that are not tied to specific operators. These neutral routers offer enhanced security and improved internet performance.
Bruno Pérez Juncá, a forensic computer expert, emphasized the importance of router security, stating, "Many operators provide cheap routers when they offer internet service. I recommend replacing these routers with a more reliable brand, one that can be updated at least. "
Pérez Juncá advises users to take control of their home cybersecurity by accessing their router's configuration menu. He explained, "It's the gateway to your home. If you don't even know the brand of your router, how can you believe your cybersecurity is under control? It's the vital element that can defend you from access to places you don't want anyone to reach."
To access the router's configuration menu, users can simply enter the router's IP address in their web browser, which is usually 192.168.0.1. If this address doesn't work, the router's IP address, username, and password can be found on a sticker on the bottom of the device.
