Barcelona, Spain - Amazon has announced that over 3,500 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Catalonia experienced a 15% year-on-year revenue increase, totaling €300 million in 2023. This growth comes as part of the company's broader impact in Spain, where it has invested €17.5 billion since its arrival 13 years ago and employed 25,000 workers since 2019.
Eva Pérez, Amazon's senior public policy manager, highlighted the company's role as a 'motor of growth' for the Spanish economy during a presentation at Foment del Treball Nacional. Catalonia is now home to 8,000 Amazon employees and the highest number of SMEs utilizing its marketplace.
Amazon has established over 1,100 pickup points in Catalonia and operates several logistics centers, including Spain's largest in Prat de Llobregat. The company aims to support local businesses by providing a platform that allows them to reach global customers.
Coia Pons, Amazon's e-commerce opportunities manager for SMEs, noted that more than 60% of products on Amazon are from third-party sellers. The company also offers services like Amazon FBA, which manages logistics for sellers at a commission of up to 35%.
