The UK government has proposed that water companies in England and Wales double their compensation payments to customers for poor service, particularly in light of recent service outages and a parasite outbreak affecting water quality.
Under the new proposal from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, reimbursements to households for service outages would increase to £50, with an additional £50 for every subsequent 12-hour period that water remains unavailable. Furthermore, compensation for cases of internal sewage flooding would rise to a maximum of £2,000.
