Tim Burton, known for iconic films such as "Edward Scissorhands," "The Nightmare Before Christmas," and the 2022 television series "Wednesday," recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He described the recognition as an "honor," noting that the location of his star, in front of a landmark store, holds special significance for him.
Reflecting on his childhood, Burton shared, "As a kid, I would take the bus down here from Burbank. I was young enough to believe these monuments were actually gravestones when I first came here." He humorously recalled realizing that John Wayne was not buried there, despite his early misconceptions.
Among those who attended the ceremony were actors Danny DeVito and Deep Roy, actress Monica Bellucci, and costume designer Colleen Atwood. Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton, who starred in Burton's 1988 film "Beetlejuice" and its sequel, spoke in his honor. Ryder remarked, "Giving him this star is like giving a medal on Mount Everest because it is the highest mountain." She praised Burton's deep understanding of people, stating, "He knows the pain in the hearts of the misunderstood, the weird, and the unusual, and he always restores their dignity."
Burton's unique ability to blend humor and depth in his characters continues to resonate with audiences, making him a beloved figure in the film industry.
