Mel B Lights Up Blackpool: A Night of Music and Celebration

Pop icon Mel B made a nostalgic return to Blackpool, where her career first began, to switch on the town's famous illuminations. The event, held at the Tower Festival Headland, attracted large crowds eager to see the star and enjoy a spectacular show featuring performances from Ella Henderson, Kimberly Wyatt, and Britain's Got Talent winner, Sydnie Christmas.

As a million lights illuminated the six-mile display, fireworks erupted above The Blackpool Tower, complemented by a laser and projection show set to Mel's solo single, 'For Once In My Life.' Mel B, known for her role in the Spice Girls—who sold over 100 million records worldwide—expressed her excitement at returning to her roots.

The event also showcased local talent through the Upbeat Rock Academy, featuring a 90-minute performance that included an award-winning hip hop dance crew. The two-hour main show, hosted by Hits Radio presenters, highlighted the vibrant music scene in Blackpool.

Cllr Lynn Williams, Leader of Blackpool Council, praised the event, noting the fantastic performances from chart-topping stars and the opportunity for young local talent to shine. The Blackpool Illuminations will continue to dazzle visitors every night until January 5, 2025.
