Evacuations Ordered in Voronezh Region Following Drone Attacks

Residents of two settlements in the Voronezh region of Russia were evacuated on August 28 after drone strikes targeted a munitions depot. The regional governor, Alexander Gusev, announced that a temporary accommodation center had been established and buses were deployed for the evacuation.

According to Gusev, air defense forces detected and destroyed a drone in the Rossoshansky district. Fortunately, there were no casualties or significant damage reported. However, fragments from the drone caused a fire near hazardous materials, prompting the decision to evacuate residents.

The fire was extinguished by local emergency services, and the situation has since stabilized, allowing residents to return home. Meanwhile, local reports indicated that drones had also attacked another munitions depot in the village of Malaya Mezhenka.

Earlier, on August 24, Ukrainian forces struck a munitions depot in the Ostrogozhsky district, resulting in injuries to two individuals, one of whom was hospitalized in serious condition. Following that attack, evacuations were also carried out.

In addition, reports emerged of a drone attack on an oil depot in the Rostov region, where a fire broke out. Governor Vasily Golubev stated that four drones were shot down around 3 AM, leading to a fire at a fuel storage facility in the Kamensky district, but no injuries were reported.

Russian airports have begun canceling flights due to the threat of drone attacks. The Federal Air Transport Agency announced temporary restrictions at Kazan and Nizhnekamsk airports, halting both arrivals and departures. Flights destined for Kazan were redirected to Samara, while those heading to Nizhnekamsk were sent to airports in Izhevsk, Ufa, and Samara.

The recent drone attacks have raised security concerns across several Russian regions, prompting heightened alert at airports.
