Reviving Heritage: Lucknow's Philtre and Co

Atelier Varun Goel has unveiled Philtre and Co, a cafe in Lucknow that beautifully merges historical architecture with modern design. This new establishment is located in Le Press, a restored 19th-century printing press, showcasing a blend of Indo-Saracenic, Gothic Roman, and British Colonial influences.

Key highlights include:

  • The cafe spans 2,000 square feet, accommodating up to 55 guests.

  • It features a seamless indoor-outdoor flow, with a courtyard centered around a sculptural neem tree.

  • The design incorporates local craftsmanship, including a mosaic-tiled wood-fired pizza oven.

  • Asymmetrical rugs sourced from local businesses enhance the unique aesthetic.

Goyal emphasizes the importance of integrating restored heritage with contemporary elements, stating, "Our comprehensive involvement ensured seamless integration of the restored heritage building with the newly designed elements." This project stands as a testament to Lucknow's enduring design legacy.
