UN Approves $3.8 Million for Humanitarian Aid in Colombia's Catatumbo Region

The United Nations has allocated $3.8 million to Colombia's Catatumbo region, which has been ravaged by violence between guerrilla groups and the Colombian military. The funding, approved by the UN's Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), will be used to provide humanitarian assistance to the region's residents, who have been displaced by the fighting. The UN's resident and humanitarian coordinator in Colombia, Mireia Villar, said the conflict in the Catatumbo region has affected over 77,000 people, including 25,000 who are confined to rural areas. The UN's emergency coordinator, Tom Fletcher, approved the funding, which will be used to provide food, healthcare, water, and education to those in need. The UN also plans to protect children and women from gender-based violence.
