Paralympic Athletes Arrive in Paris Ahead of 2024 Games

On August 21, 2024, the first members of the Mexican delegation for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games arrived in the French capital. They were accompanied by officials from the Mexican Paralympic Committee (Copame) and proceeded to enter the Paralympic Village, which opened its doors on the same day.

The para taekwondo team was the first to access the facilities, including Juan Diego García, Claudia Romero, Jessica García, Fernanda Vargas, and Luis Mario Nájera, led by coaches Jannet Alegría and María del Rosario Espinoza. Also arriving were para swimmers Patricia Valle, Pedro Rangel, and Karina Amayrani Hernández, along with their multidisciplinary team.

In the second flight of the Mexican delegation, para powerlifting athletes Jesús Castillo and Perla Patricia Bárcenas, para cyclist Dulce González, and para athletics athletes including Ángeles Ortiz, Daniela Velasco, Román Ruiz, Pauleth Mejía, and Luis Carlos López were among those who arrived. Additionally, table tennis players Marta Verdín and Claudia Pérez Villalba, and para swimmer Marcos Zárate joined them.

Meanwhile, the first Moroccan Paralympic athletes also arrived on August 21, with a total of 38 athletes representing Morocco in various sports, including para athletics and para taekwondo. Mustapha Fkeoui, secretary general of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for People with Disabilities, emphasized their goal of winning as many medals as possible during the Games, which will take place from August 28 to September 8, 2024.
