Gran Tierra Energy Inc. has achieved a significant milestone with its latest oil discovery at the Charapa-B6 well, located in Ecuador's Charapa Block. This marks the company's fifth discovery in Ecuador as it continues to explore the Oriente and Putumayo basins.
The Charapa-B6 well, drilled west of the recently discovered Arawana-J1 and Bocachico Norte-J1 wells, demonstrated promising results. After running production casing and cementing the Hollin oil zone, the well produced at stabilized rates of 2,118 barrels per day (bbl/d) over a 53-hour testing period.
Gran Tierra’s CEO noted that this discovery underscores the company's commitment to maximizing exploration opportunities in the region. The Charapa-B6 well is the first exploration well drilled in the Charapa Block since Charapa-B5, which has yielded over 280,000 bbl to date.
As Gran Tierra continues its operations, the rig has been moved to drill the Charapa-B7 exploration well, further enhancing its exploration efforts in Ecuador.
This discovery not only boosts Gran Tierra's portfolio but also positions the company favorably within the competitive oil market, promising potential growth and increased production capabilities.
