Over 300 Buddhist Relics to Be Auctioned in Hong Kong

A collection of over 300 Buddhist relics, believed to be over 2,300 years old, will be auctioned in Hong Kong. The relics, which include precious stones, gold ornaments, and other artifacts, were discovered in 1898 in an ancient Buddhist stupa in northern Thailand.

The auction will be held from February 7 to 23 at the Sotheby's Hong Kong gallery. The relics are expected to fetch a significant price, as they are considered to be some of the most important Buddhist relics in the world.

The collection is being sold by the descendants of William Claxton Peppé, a British archaeologist who discovered the relics in 1898. Peppé was a renowned scholar of ancient Buddhist history, and his discovery of the relics was considered to be a major breakthrough in the field.
