YouTube Introduces 'Captured with a Camera' Label to Ensure Content Authenticity

YouTube is rolling out a new label, 'Captured with a camera,' to help viewers identify authentic video content amidst the rise of AI-generated media.

The label will appear in the 'How this content was made' section of video descriptions, indicating that the footage is unaltered and recorded directly by the creator.

This initiative is powered by the C2PA standard, which verifies media authenticity by attaching metadata from compatible devices. To qualify, creators must use software or hardware that supports C2PA version 2.1 or higher, ensuring the video remains unedited in sound and visuals.

As concerns over deepfakes and synthetic media grow, this label builds on YouTube's earlier efforts to combat AI manipulation. Other platforms, like Adobe and Meta, are also adopting similar measures to help users identify manipulated content.

YouTube's new label is a significant step toward fostering transparency in an era where distinguishing real from synthetic media is increasingly challenging.
