Benigànim Celebrates the IV Centenary of the Birth of Blessed Inés with a Historic Pilgrimage

Benigànim is immersed in a historic event: the celebration of the IV Centenary of the birth of Blessed Inés. This year marks four centuries of devotion and history, which, although lived in the daily reality of every day, is proclaimed loudly and solemnly this year.

The town is preparing for a series of events, including a special Mass celebrated by the Auxiliary Bishop of Valencia, D. Arturo Garcia, in the church of Blessed Inés. The celebration will also feature a theatrical route through the historic settings of Blessed Inés' life, a procession with images from other towns, and a fireworks display.

The central event of the morning will be a Solemn Mass in the field in front of the monastery where Blessed Inés lived. The Archbishop of Valencia, Don Enrique Benavent, will preside over the ceremony. In the afternoon, there will be an extraordinary procession that will travel through the churches of Benigànim and historical places linked to the history of Blessed Inés. Scenes from the life of Blessed Inés will be represented, as is customary in the procession every January 21st. But what will make this event historic is the participation of pilgrims from other towns with their banners and titular images. Up to a dozen towns will make a pilgrimage either with their banners or with their images, such as the brotherhood of the Christ of Forgiveness of Carcaixent, the Blessed Inés of the town of Benicull or the Christ of Mount Calvary of Genovés, among others, all of them exhibited in an interesting exhibition of sacred art that can be visited in the parish of San Miguel, an exhibition that brings together an important selection of pieces from the 17th to the 9th centuries, some of them related to Blessed Inés. In addition, the arrival of hundreds of pilgrims in cars and buses is expected. The march will be closed by the images of Benigànim, the Divine Aurora, the Christ of the Blood and Blessed Inés. The entry of the image into the temple will be a spectacle of fireworks.
