On September 16, 2024, Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted 53 out of 56 Russian drones launched from Kursk and the Krasnodar region, targeting various areas including the Kyiv region.

The drones, identified as Shahed-131/136, were primarily aimed at the capital. The interceptions occurred across nine regions: Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Poltava, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Cherkasy.

While three drones were reported lost in location, no significant damage or casualties were initially reported, apart from one woman injured by drone debris in the Kyiv region, who was hospitalized. Five vehicles and five private homes were damaged, and minor fires occurred in grassy areas.
