President Donald Trump announced on February 8, 2025, that he is revoking former President Joe Biden's security clearance and ending his daily intelligence briefings. Trump stated that this action is in retaliation for Biden's similar move against him in 2021.
Trump, in a social media post, asserted that Biden's access to classified information is unnecessary and that he is following the precedent set by Biden in 2021. He claimed that Biden instructed the Intelligence Community to restrict Trump's access to national security details, a practice traditionally extended to former presidents.
Biden has not yet commented on Trump's decision.
The move comes after Biden ended Trump's intelligence briefings in 2021, citing Trump's role in efforts to overturn the 2020 election and his involvement in the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. Biden had characterized Trump's behavior as "erratic" and deemed it a reason to withhold intelligence briefings.
Trump, in his post, also referred to the special counsel report on Biden's handling of classified documents, stating that the report highlighted Biden's "poor memory" and questioned his trustworthiness with sensitive information.
Trump concluded his post with the statement, "I will always protect our National Security -- JOE, YOU'RE FIRED. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
