Kuala Lumpur Exhibition Highlights Drawing as a Vital Art Form

The Ilham Gallery in Kuala Lumpur is hosting an exhibition titled Titik Garis Bentuk (Drawing As Practice), which runs until August 30. This exhibition showcases the works of 27 artists and emphasizes the importance of drawing as a finished art form.

Among the highlights are colorful illustrations of traditional Kelantanese recipes, a brutalist stencil art installation, and haunting charcoal drawings depicting decaying structures in East Java. The exhibition draws a diverse audience, particularly young individuals eager to explore the significance of drawing in contemporary Malaysian art.

Rahel Joseph, the gallery director, noted that the exhibition aims to spotlight varied approaches to drawing, from traditional techniques to modern mediums like animation and gaming software. The exhibition also serves as a gateway for newcomers to Malaysian art, intertwining themes of nationhood and cultural identity.

Visitors can engage with the exhibition on multiple levels, exploring environmental themes, personal narratives, and cultural sketches. Special installations, such as Quilt Of The Dead by Chang Yoong Chia, invite reflection on life and memory.

The exhibition is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm, and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm, while being closed on Mondays and public holidays. Admission is free, making it accessible to all art enthusiasts.
