Indonesia Reiterates Support for Palestinian Self-Determination Amid Gaza Ceasefire

Jakarta, February 7, 2024 - Indonesia has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Palestinian self-determination and opposing any forced relocation of Palestinians, following a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel. The ceasefire, brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, came into effect on January 19, ending a 15-month conflict that began on October 7, 2023. Indonesia's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Roy Soemirat, stated that the country will continue to coordinate with the United Nations (UN) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to monitor the situation in Gaza. Indonesia has consistently opposed any actions that could alter the demographic composition of Palestinian territories and hinder the realization of a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state. The country will continue to work with the international community to ensure the respect of international law and the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to return to their homeland.
