Africa's Renewable Energy Push

Africa has vast renewable energy potential, yet action from leaders is crucial to harness it for development. At the Investment Forum for the Accelerated Partnership for Renewables in Africa (APRA) in Nairobi, IRENA director-general Francesco La Camera emphasized the need for collaboration between political leaders and the business sector to promote clean energy.

In 2023, global renewable energy capacity increased by 473 gigawatts (GW), with renewables making up 87% of new installations. However, Sub-Saharan Africa's energy-transition investments are 40 times lower than the global average per capita.

The APRA, established by six African nations, aims to accelerate energy transitions and ensure that Africa's energy transition is not delayed.
