Mercedes-Benz showcased its latest electrification strategies at its Sindelfingen facility in Stuttgart, Germany, emphasizing its leadership in electric and hybrid technologies.
The new Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) platform will debut with the Mercedes-Benz CLA, featuring a skateboard chassis designed primarily for electric vehicles. This platform supports a new generation of electric drive units (EDU 2.0) developed in-house.
The CLA will be powered by a 200 kW (272 hp) electric motor, utilizing an 800V architecture for rapid charging capabilities, achieving 300 km of range in just 10 minutes with a 320 kW DC fast charger.
Mercedes-Benz's new electric system promises a range of 750 km on a single charge, with an impressive energy consumption of nearly 12 kWh/100 km and a 93% efficiency in energy transfer.
The company is also introducing a new 48V hybrid system, featuring a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that operates on the Miller cycle, designed for full electric driving at low speeds and enhanced energy recovery.
New hybrid models will offer various power outputs, with the electric motor contributing an additional 20 kW. These advancements are set to redefine expectations in the electric vehicle market.
