Severe Weather Warnings as Strong Winds and Heavy Rain Hit the UK

Severe weather conditions are expected across the UK this weekend, with the Met Office issuing yellow weather warnings for strong winds and heavy rain. Gusts could reach up to 80mph in parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, prompting warnings of potential disruption, power cuts, and danger to life from flying debris.

The yellow wind warning will be in effect from 3am on Sunday, October 20, until 12pm on Monday, October 21. The strongest winds are anticipated on Sunday afternoon and evening, particularly in western Scotland, where gusts of 70-80mph are possible. Inland areas may experience gusts of 50-60mph.

In addition to the wind warnings, heavy rain continues to affect parts of Wales and western England, with some areas expected to receive between 50 and 80mm of rain within six hours. Isolated thunderstorms are also forecasted, increasing the risk of flooding and travel disruptions.

The Met Office advises residents to prepare for potential power outages and to secure loose items around their homes. Coastal areas should remain vigilant for large waves and hazardous conditions.
