World Bank Announces $750 Million Support Package for Ukraine Amid Ongoing Conflict

On November 8, 2024, the World Bank announced a new support package for Ukraine amounting to $750 million, as confirmed by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. The funding is part of the 'Support for Reconstruction through Smart Fiscal Management' (SURGE) project, aimed at facilitating institutional reforms necessary for Ukraine's EU accession.

Shmyhal emphasized that the implementation of this program will strengthen the operations of state institutions during wartime and ensure the provision of essential public services to citizens. The reforms under this project are designed to improve the efficiency of public investment management and state finances. He noted that funding could be increased if necessary.

This announcement follows Ukraine's receipt of nearly $1.1 billion as part of its cooperation program with the International Monetary Fund on October 23, 2024.
