Dražen: A Cinematic Tribute to a Basketball Legend

The memorial event honoring basketball titan Dražen Petrović drew thousands of emotional spectators to Zagreb Arena last night. During the event, the trailer for the long-awaited film 'Dražen' was premiered, set to debut this autumn on Dražen's birthday.

Producers Ljubo Zdjelarević and Ivor Šiber from Kinoteka expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to showcase the trailer in front of such a large audience. They emphasized the importance of presenting the film to those who understand Dražen's legacy.

The trailer introduces the film as 'the story of an ordinary boy destined for greatness,' guiding viewers through Dražen's life from his early days in Šibenik to his tragic death in 1993. Directed by Danilo Šerbedžija and based on a screenplay by Ivan Turković Krnjak, the film aims to provide an emotional portrayal of this sports icon's life.

Producers Zdjelarević and Šiber highlighted that Dražen's name evokes admiration worldwide, not only in basketball but also as a symbol of achieving dreams through hard work. They aimed to depict a personal story that transcends typical sports narratives, focusing on Dražen's upbringing and relationships with family and supporters.

Actor Domagoj Nižić described working on 'Dražen' as a challenging and emotional task, noting that the story transcends basketball and serves as an inspiration for all generations.

The film stars Domagoj Nižić and Romina Tonković, with supporting roles featuring Zrinka Cvitešić, Tonko Stošić, Lovre Tanfara, and others.

Produced by Kinoteka, the film is co-produced with Slovenia's December and Serbia's Living Pictures, supported by various film centers and sponsors. The premiere is anticipated in Šibenik on October 22, 2024.
