Walter Salles, the acclaimed Brazilian director known for 'Central Station' (1998) and 'The Motorcycle Diaries' (2004), has brought his latest film, 'Still Here,' to Bolivian cinemas. The film explores themes of personal resilience and the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
Set in 1971, during a period of growing military control in Brazil, 'Still Here' follows Eunice Paiva (Fernanda Torres), a mother of five, who must rebuild her life after her family suffers a violent and arbitrary act by the government. Based on the memoirs of Marcelo Rubens Paiva, Paiva's son, the film offers a glimpse into a hidden chapter of Brazil's history.
'Still Here' has garnered numerous awards, including a Golden Globe for Fernanda Torres as Best Actress in a Drama. It has also been recognized at the Venice Film Festival, the Vancouver International Film Festival, and the National Board of Review. The film is nominated for Goya Awards, BAFTA Awards, and three Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Foreign Language Film.
