Canada Invests in EV Infrastructure

The Canadian government has announced a federal investment of $14.9 million to enhance zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) infrastructure across the country. This initiative aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector, which accounts for 18% of Canada's total emissions.

Key projects include:

  • Victoria, B.C.: $340,000 for 68 EV chargers by March 31, 2024.

  • Halifax, Nova Scotia: $110,000 for 22 EV chargers by April 2023.

  • Vancouver, B.C.: $4.9 million for 2,635 EV chargers by May 2025.

  • Toronto, Ontario: $1.56 million for an awareness campaign promoting electric vehicles.

Additionally, $3.6 million will be allocated to update codes and standards for ZEV infrastructure, ensuring compatibility and safety in charging systems.

These investments are part of a broader strategy to promote clean transportation options and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, with a focus on integrating electric vehicle infrastructure into existing urban environments.
