Jacksonville, Florida - In a groundbreaking initiative, Jacksonville University (JU) has unveiled the "Robot Studio," a dedicated space for healthcare-focused robotics. This facility, developed in partnership with Chang Robotics, spans approximately 4,000 square feet and will serve as a hub for programming, testing, and showcasing advanced robots designed for hospital environments.
The studio will feature eight new collaborative robots, known as "cobots," which are set to assist healthcare professionals in nearby hospitals. These robots aim to enhance patient care by taking over time-consuming tasks, allowing practitioners to focus more on direct patient interaction.
Dr. Barbara Ritter, dean of the Davis College of Business & Technology at JU, emphasized the importance of this partnership, noting that it aligns with the university's hands-on design curriculum and prepares students for real-world applications of emerging technologies.
Bill Hill, executive director of JU's STEAM Institute, highlighted the opportunity for students to engage with cutting-edge healthcare technology, enhancing their skills in robotics and artificial intelligence.
Visitors to the Robot Studio will witness demonstrations of robots transporting supplies within a simulated healthcare setting, showcasing their potential to improve hospital logistics and job satisfaction among healthcare workers. Chang Robotics President Kate McAfoose stated that this initiative reflects a significant step towards reimagining the future of healthcare through technology.
