Adani's China Move Raises Security Concerns

The Congress party has intensified its criticism of the Adani Group following the announcement of a new subsidiary in China, raising alarms about national security and economic dependency. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh accused Prime Minister Modi of enabling Chinese interests and compromising India's sovereignty.

Ramesh described Modi's previous statements regarding China, particularly a 'clean chit' given in the wake of the Galwan Valley clash, as damaging and misleading. He argued that such statements have eroded India's position and allowed China to deny territorial infringements.

As the Adani Group plans further investments in China, Ramesh warned that this could transform Modi's earlier stance into a 'letter of support' for Chinese interests. He criticized the government's inadequate economic policies towards China, highlighting a lack of action against the influx of Chinese imports and investments.

Ramesh also pointed to the dubious history of Adani's operations in China, citing past incidents involving links to illegal activities. He claimed that these investments could undermine India's national interests and contribute to negative outcomes on the global stage.

In light of these developments, Ramesh expressed concerns that India's sacrifices for the sake of Modi's 'special friendships' are growing, with national security now at risk due to the Adani Group's ventures in China. The new subsidiary, Adani Energy Resources (Shanghai) Co., was incorporated to provide supply chain solutions and project management services.

The Congress party's criticisms come against the backdrop of ongoing scrutiny of the Adani Group following allegations of fraudulent activities, which the conglomerate has dismissed as lies while asserting compliance with all regulations.
