Danes Petition to Buy California; The New Yorker Vows Independence Amid Media Pressure

More than 200,000 Danish nationals have signed an online petition to purchase California from the United States, proposing to rename it "New Denmark." This follows President Trump's renewed interest in acquiring Greenland. The petition pledges to introduce Danish values, such as hygge (a concept of coziness), and aims to collect 500,000 signatures and crowdfund US$1 trillion.

Meanwhile, The New Yorker magazine is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Editor David Remnick stated the magazine would maintain its independence despite increasing hostility from the U.S. President towards news media. ABC News previously agreed to pay $15 million toward Trump's presidential library to settle a lawsuit. Trump also filed a lawsuit against CBS over a pre-election interview with Kamala Harris. In late January, the Federal Communications Commission opened investigations into NPR and PBS.
