Delhi Launches Digital Travel Cards for Women's Free Bus Rides

Edited by: Dmitry Drozd

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is rolling out digital travel cards under the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) framework, starting July 7, 2025. This initiative aims to replace the existing 'pink ticket' system, enhancing transparency and efficiency for women and transgender commuters.

The new system, announced by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, will link cards to commuters' identities to reduce misuse. The NCMC, launched in 2019, allows users to pay for various services, including travel and retail, and is supported by multiple banks.

The DTC is collaborating with banks to issue these smart cards, usable across all public transport in Delhi. This is part of a broader modernization effort, including adding over 5,000 electric buses by 2025-26. The transition promises a smoother, corruption-free experience.
