EU Funds to Boost Recycling and Coastal Dune Protection in Poland - October 26, 2023

The Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland has secured two EU grants totaling over 24 million euros for projects aimed at enhancing recycling infrastructure and protecting coastal dunes. The grants, awarded under the LIFE program, will be used to implement a range of initiatives.

A significant portion of the funding, exceeding 21 million euros, will be allocated to improving recycling operations. This includes establishing repair points for electronic and electrical equipment at waste collection points (PSZOKs), offering specialized postgraduate studies for public administration officials at the University of Gdańsk, and creating a competence center for businesses. The center will provide advisory services and facilitate the acquisition of complementary funding for waste management investments. The project also includes a pilot program for managing fishing waste, such as discarded nets.

The University of Gdańsk will receive over 3.5 million euros for a project focused on protecting coastal dunes. The project aims to implement measures to preserve the fragile ecosystem of the dunes, which play a crucial role in coastal protection and biodiversity.

These initiatives highlight Poland's commitment to environmental sustainability and its efforts to leverage EU funding for projects with significant international impact. The projects are expected to contribute to achieving the EU's ambitious environmental goals and promoting sustainable development practices.
