Delhi has extended its Electric Vehicle (EV) policy, with a new draft, EV Policy 2.0, on the horizon. The extension ensures the continuation of EV subsidies, including ₹30,000 for two-wheelers, e-autos, and e-goods carriers, and up to ₹1,50,000 for e-cars (limited to the first 1000 cars). It also includes a 5% interest rate subvention on loans for e-autos and e-rickshaws, and a ₹5,000 incentive under the Scrappage Policy. The upcoming EV Policy 2.0 aims for 95% electric vehicle registrations by 2027. It may include a green cess on petrol and CNG vehicles to discourage their use. Proposals suggest a cess of 1-2% on new petrol and CNG vehicles, or alternatively, ₹0.50 per liter on petrol/CNG and ₹1 per liter on diesel. There's also a proposal for a green levy on older vehicles at the time of PUC testing. The policy will focus on phasing out CNG vehicles and transitioning to electric buses. New buildings will be mandated to have EV charging points. These measures aim to boost EV adoption, reduce pollution, and establish Delhi as a leading EV city.
