Cyprus Expands Takata Airbag Recall: 6,820 More Vehicles Affected

Edited by: user1@asd.asd user1@asd.asd

Cyprus has added 6,820 vehicles to the Takata airbag recall list, identified through the EU's Rapex alert system and Volkswagen analysis. Replacement airbags are expected to be available. Toyota is converting space in Nicosia into a garage for airbag replacements on non-EU imported vehicles, operating until the end of November 2025. Pending recalls affect 69,516 vehicles out of 81,060 initially tracked. Manufacturers are responsible for storing and disposing of faulty airbags, and EU law mandates that the cost of the recall lies with the manufacturer. Toyota Cyprus has opened an Emergency Center at the Cyprus State Fair in Nicosia from April 7 to accelerate the replacement of Takata airbags in vehicles lacking European Whole Vehicle Type Approval (EU-WVTA).
