Fragments from Alpha Centauri, the closest star system to Earth, may already be present in our solar system. A new study suggests that gravitational interactions within Alpha Centauri could be ejecting rocky and dusty debris towards us. These fragments could enter Earth's atmosphere as high-speed meteors, offering a unique opportunity to study material from another star system without sending a probe. Researchers estimate that there could be around 10 meteors annually from Alpha Centauri, increasing tenfold in the next 28,000 years.
