Mediterranean Telescope Detects Record-Breaking High-Energy Neutrino

On February 13, 2023, the KM3NeT/ARCA underwater telescope in the Mediterranean Sea detected a neutrino with an estimated energy of 220 PeV. This event, named KM3-230213A, marks the highest energy neutrino ever observed, providing the first evidence of such high-energy neutrino production in the universe. The discovery, detailed by the KM3NeT scientific collaboration, opens a new window for neutrino astronomy and the study of extreme astrophysical phenomena.
