Mondragón Honors Gabriel Goitia: Presentation of Trilogy on ANV Battalions at Kulturate

A trilogy on the history of the ANV battalions - Olabarri, Eusko Indarra, and Askatasuna - written by historian Eduardo Renobales, will be presented at Kulturate. The event, organized by Sare Antifaxista, will feature Roa and Garai, who interviewed Yvette Limonaire, the 104-year-old widow of Gabriel Goitia, a legendary commander of the Olabarri battalion during the 1936 war. Gabriel Goitia, a key figure in organizing the defenses in Arlaban and coordinating measures during the early months of the war, later became captain and then commander of the ANV militias. He played a crucial role in the retreat of Arrasate troops and served on various fronts in Euskadi and Asturias. After the capitulation of the Basque Army in Laredo, Goitia was evacuated to Donibane Lohitzune (San Juan de Luz). He later married Yvette Limonaire in 1944, amidst the backdrop of war, and passed away in 2000 at the age of 89.
