The Indonesian rupiah closed at Rp 15,422 per US dollar on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, marking a 0.47% appreciation from the previous day’s closing of Rp 15,495. This increase makes the rupiah the strongest performer against the US dollar in Asia today.
Other Asian currencies also showed slight gains, with the Philippine peso rising 0.09%, the Malaysian ringgit up 0.07%, and the Hong Kong dollar increasing by 0.03%. In contrast, most other Asian currencies weakened against the dollar, with the Japanese yen experiencing the largest decline of 0.41%, followed by the Thai baht down 0.33% and the South Korean won down 0.31%.
The US Dollar Index, which measures the dollar's value against a basket of major currencies, rose to 100.81, up from 100.55 the previous day. This reflects ongoing fluctuations in the currency markets as investors await further economic indicators.
