Monex Warns of Global Trade Reconfiguration in 2025 Amid Trump's Tariff Threats and Economic Slowdown

Mexico City - Grupo Financiero Monex warned Wednesday that global trade could face reconfiguration in 2025 due to risks, particularly regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policies. The institution noted other risks, including reduced economic activity in regions like the European Union and increased geopolitical tensions. Trump's threats to impose tariffs on multiple countries, including trade partners Canada and Mexico, could pressure inflation and central banks. Monex highlighted Mexico's economic deceleration, emphasizing the importance of President Claudia Sheinbaum's investment strategy, "Plan Mexico," and diplomatic dialogue with the U.S. to maintain stable trade relations. Trump has threatened Canada and Mexico with a 25 percent tariff on their products if they do not show progress in combating drug trafficking and controlling migration. He offered a one-month period for advancements on these issues following phone calls with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Sheinbaum, in exchange for not implementing the trade tariffs.
