Claudel Bronze Sculpture Discovered and Auctioned in Orléans

A bronze sculpture by Camille Claudel, estimated between 1.5 and 2 million euros, was auctioned at the Salle de l'Institut in Orléans. The sculpture, part of the mythical group 'L'Âge mûr', was discovered in a Parisian apartment under a sheet. According to the auctioneer, Matthieu Semont, only three other copies of this group were known worldwide, making this the fourth known sculpture. The sculpture is particularly significant as it is marked with the number one, suggesting it was the first model cast from the mold. The rediscovery of this sculpture after more than a century adds historical importance to its sale. Interest has been expressed by both private individuals and international museum institutions. All 340 seats in the auction hall were reserved, with additional remote bidders expected to participate.
