Christian Group Demands Edits to Yash Film 'Toxic' Over Archangel Michael Portrayal
Edited by: sfsdf dsf
The upcoming pan-India film *Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups*, starring Yash, faces pre-release challenges ahead of its scheduled theatrical debut on March 19, 2026. The National Christian Federation (NCF) has formally lodged a complaint, asserting that imagery within the film's promotional teaser offends Christian religious sentiments.
The NCF's specific objection centers on the depiction of Archangel Michael in the teaser visuals, which the organization characterizes as inappropriate and insulting to the figure. The complaint notes that contentious scenes were filmed near religious iconography, specifically a statue of the Archangel Michael located at a cemetery used during production. Pradeep Kumar, president of the NCF, has formally requested authorities mandate the immediate removal of these specific sequences from the film's final version.
The federation's demands also include the immediate withdrawal of the objectionable teaser from all digital platforms and a public apology from the filmmakers, including director Geetu Mohandas and Yash’s production companies. The NCF has indicated a readiness to pursue legal action against the film's creators should these demands remain unaddressed. Complaints have been directed toward the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the Film Chamber of Commerce, the Chief Secretary, and the Home Secretary.
*Toxic*, which is set for a box office release alongside Ranveer Singh’s *Dhurandhar 2* on March 19, 2026, features a cast including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, and Tara Sutaria. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, who co-wrote the screenplay with Yash, the film is set in coastal Goa and reportedly involves a powerful drug cartel operating within the local culture.
This religious controversy represents the second significant hurdle for the production, which previously faced censure from women's organizations regarding sexually suggestive visuals in the teaser, prompting a complaint to the Karnataka State Women's Commission. Despite these disputes, production remains on schedule for the worldwide opening on March 19, 2026. The film has already secured significant distribution, including an overseas agreement where Phars Film acquired international rights for an advance of ₹105 crore.
