'Sitaare Zameen Par,' the latest film from acclaimed actor and director Aamir Khan, has adopted an unconventional distribution strategy, premiering on YouTube to broaden its audience reach beyond traditional theatrical and Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms. Following its June 20, 2025, release, the film's digital availability on YouTube aims to enhance accessibility for viewers across India, leveraging the country's widespread internet penetration.

Directed by R.S. Prasanna, 'Sitaare Zameen Par' is a narrative centered on themes of mental health and inclusivity. The film stars Aamir Khan alongside Genelia Deshmukh and features an ensemble cast of ten new actors. The film's journey commenced with a trailer release on May 8, 2025, which garnered appreciation for its emotional depth. 'Sitaare Zameen Par' is an adaptation of the 2018 Spanish film 'Champions,' inspired by the true story of a basketball team composed of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Aamir Khan explained that the film's release on YouTube, utilizing a pay-per-view model, is intended to overcome the limitations of traditional theatrical distribution, noting that even successful films reach only a fraction of the population. To further boost accessibility, Khan announced a special Independence Day weekend offer, reducing the YouTube rental price in India from ₹100 to ₹50. This promotional pricing is valid from August 15 to August 17, with corresponding adjustments made in 38 other countries.

Commercially, 'Sitaare Zameen Par' achieved a strong opening, marking the sixth-highest Hindi opening of 2025 and earning ₹11.7 crore on its first day. By July 29, 2025, the film had garnered a global box office collection of ₹263.42 crore, positioning it as the third highest-grossing Hindi film and the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of the year. Genelia Deshmukh's role in the film marked her highest-grossing Hindi film to date. The film's success is partly attributed to positive word-of-mouth, highlighting the audience's connection with its message of inclusion and personal growth.

The thematic resonance of 'Sitaare Zameen Par' is seen as a continuation of the spirit of Khan's 2007 film 'Taare Zameen Par,' which addressed dyslexia. While the earlier film focused on a child's struggles and a teacher's intervention, 'Sitaare Zameen Par' shifts the perspective, with characters facing challenges ultimately guiding and uplifting the protagonist. This narrative approach emphasizes mutual growth and understanding, offering a fresh perspective on overcoming adversity and celebrating individuality.
