Vientiane: During the 27th ASEAN-Japan Summit held on October 10, 2024, in Vientiane, Laos, Indonesian Vice President K.H. Ma'ruf Amin urged ASEAN members to strengthen the strategic partnership with Japan for the benefit of society and future-oriented initiatives.
"The ASEAN-Japan partnership has contributed to peace and stability while promoting regional economic growth. Moving forward, this partnership should focus on future needs," said Amin.
He outlined three key areas for cooperation: promoting a green economy, accelerating digital economic transformation, and maintaining peace and stability. Amin emphasized the importance of Japan's support in accelerating energy transition through innovative financing and low-carbon technology transfer.
Additionally, he highlighted the need to harness the potential of the digital economy, including Japan's support for the Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA). He also pointed out the importance of collaboration in future technologies like artificial intelligence and the implementation of Society 5.0.
Finally, Amin called for the partnership to act as a driver for regional stability and the consistent application of international law. He expressed appreciation for Japan's support of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific and urged Japan to consider recognizing Palestine to foster peace and achieve a two-state solution.
